Tattoo Aftercare

Your tattoo session is over!

You are likely hungry and exhausted.

Please go eat something you really crave and make sure to get plenty of rest. Also, avoid drinking alcohol tonight.

For the style of tattoos I do, please follow these steps

(unless advised otherwise):

  • Initial Removal: Wash your hands with soap and remove the plastic wrap (cling/saran/glad) within 3 hours of leaving the studio.

  • Cleaning: Gently wash your tattoo with room-temperature water and soap. I recommend using green soap or baby shampoo.

  • Drying: Let it air dry or gently pat it dry with a paper towel. Do not use regular towels for the first 48–72 hours, as they can harbor bacteria.

  • Moisturizing: Once the tattoo is fully dry, apply a thin layer of aftercare cream. Do not re-wrap the tattoo in plastic. Wear loose clothing over the area.

Ongoing Care (First 3 Weeks):
Apply a thin layer of aftercare cream 2–3 times a day.

The key is balance: let the tattoo "breathe" and don't suffocate it with too much moisture.

However, if it looks or feels dry, add a light layer of cream.

Important Reminders:

  • Showers: Stick to quick washes during the healing phase. Long showers and hot water can negatively affect the healing process.

  • Hygiene: Always wash your hands before starting the aftercare routine for your new tattoo.

  • Water & Heat: No swimming, baths, saunas, or jacuzzis for 3–4 weeks.

  • Exercise: No workouts or heavy sweating in the tattooed area for 5 days.

  • Sun Protection: Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight during the healing process. Once your tattoo has healed (around 4 weeks), apply sunscreen regularly to protect it.
